Vocabulary has become even more important on the new SAT. It’s critical to two out of three sections of the test, namely the critical reading section and the writing section. This app focuses on prefixes and suffixes contained within SAT words.
A prefix is a group of letters added before a word or base to alter its meaning and form a new word. In contrast, a suffix is a group of letters added after a word or base. Knowing the “building blocks” of the English language – prefixes, suffixes and root words – helps you to understand a word’s meaning and spelling convention.
According to The College Board (makers of the SAT test) the sentence completion questions, “test your vocabulary and your understanding of sentence structure.” 100 years of research have proven that the more words you know, the faster you read and the more you comprehend. Which means that, once again, a powerful vocabulary is critical to success on this section of the exam. In fact, vocabulary is still so important to scoring highly on the NEW SAT that SAT prep programs like Kaplan, Princeton Review and others continue to make it a primary focus of their students’ SAT preparation.
The KnowPro quiz on SAT Vocabulary Prefixes and Suffixes will enrich your understanding of the most frequently used words on the SAT.

There’s no shortcut and just no getting around it – if you want a high score on the new SAT, you’ve still got to work on your vocabulary skills.
